Can I dye my hair if I have a sensitive scalp? Pre-dyeing assessment and warning signs to stop
Itchy scalp or a past reaction to dye? What to tell your colourist first, what a patch test can and cannot tell you, and when to postpone.
Scalp sensitivity is not a single condition. It may only be dry and itchy occasionally, or it may have a significant reaction to dyes. Whether you can dye your hair cannot just be judged by "just bear with it for a while". Before dyeing, you should fully explain your past experience and current status.

Under what circumstances should you delay hair dyeing?
If your scalp is red, swollen, broken, exuding, obviously inflamed, or has persistent pain and severe itching, you should first stop your hair dyeing plan and seek professional medical evaluation such as a dermatologist. Hair coloring services are not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment.
Be sure to inform us of your past reactions.
If you have ever experienced facial swelling, breathing discomfort, large rashes, or other systemic reactions during or after hair dyeing, you should mention this before making an appointment and ask a medical professional first. Don’t assume that it’s safe just because you change brands, colors, or use “mild” products.
Skin testing does not mean zero risk
Testing according to product instructions can help with risk assessment, but there is no guarantee that there will be no reaction when hair is officially dyed. If you experience unusual burning, stinging, swelling or discomfort during the hair dyeing process, please inform your stylist immediately and do not force yourself to endure it.
What can I prepare before making an appointment?
Provide the current scalp condition, hair dye products used, time of reaction and symptoms; if you are undergoing treatment or are not sure whether hair dye is suitable, you should first ask a medical professional. You can also read What to prepare before hair color for the first time.
General hair dyeing needs can be consulted through Faye Designer LINE, but for acute or severe symptoms, please give priority to medical treatment.
